Bogota, Colombia (October 27, 2013) – The San Andrés Golf Club’s course is in top shape to welcome the Arturo Calle Colombian Classic, presented by Avianca. Hosted by the Colombian Golf Federation, the Tour’s partner in Colombia, this tournament is all set to begin on Thursday.
Located in Bogota, this week’s venue is regarded as one of the most storied golf courses in Colombia. The 7,291-yard course underwent several renovations over the last few months in preparation for the tenth event of the NEC Series-PGA TOUR Latinoamérica season.
The most notable changes are the new tees added on holes 1, 2, 15, 16 and 18, which allow the course to accommodate the distances reached by professional players these days.
Among those supervising the changes made was Camilo Kalozdi, who highlighted the work done on the fairways and rough. “The fairways are between 25 and 30 yards wide and the rough is two inches high. We followed the Tour guidelines and valuable advice from its agronomy team.”
The San Andrés golf course provides plenty of tree trouble, with almost two thousand trees planted throughout. Those trees, old and tall, demand precision from the tees. In addition to that, the competitors will also need to consider green undulation, which is especially severe on holes 8 through 11.
With most of them playing over 200 yards long, the par-three holes promise to be key in order to score well. Other critical holes to consider are the par-four No. 11, which features a water hazard to the left, and the par-four No. 7, which is 510 yards long and is played as a par-five by the local amateur. The final hole, a 567-yard par-five, provides a breather and also plenty of risk and reward for those in need of a closing birdie or better.
The Arturo Calle Colombian Classic presented by Avianca is also the second and final event of the 2013 PGA TOUR Latinoamérica season in Colombia. The 66th Arturo Calle Colombian Open presented by Diners Club was the other event played in Colombian soil at the beginning of May.
