Super Ranking – Week 9

These are some of the players to watch this week at the 60th Aberto do Brasil presented by Credit Suisse by Hedging Griffo

Alex Rocha is looking for his first career win at this National Open Championship. Enrique Berardi/PGA TOUR

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil (October 16, 2013) – Being only 5,915 yards long, Gavea Golf & CC will provide a very unique challenge to those battling for the 60th Aberto do Brasil presented Credit Suisse Hedging-Griffo.

Its narrow fairways and small greens demand precision. In addition to that, the elevation changes and the winds hitting the course from the Atlantic may increase the degree of difficulty.

These are some of the players to watch:

1. Oscar Serna, Mexico

The Order of Merit’s No. 4 is a guarantee whenever you discuss title contenders. He has collected five top 10s and hasn’t finished lower than T14 in eight Tour starts this season. In addition to that, he is second among the players with the most birdies so far this year.

2. Alex Rocha, Brazil

The top Brazilian player is very excited to return to his home country to challenge for his first Brazil Open title. He has spent the past three seasons playing in the United States, competing on the PGA TOUR and the Web.com Tour, and his experience could be key down the stretch.

3. Jorge Fernández-Valdés, Argentina

Ranked No. 2 in the Order of Merit, he is one of several young players who know this complicated golf course. We represented his country at the 2011 Copa Los Andes. With six top 10 finishes in eight starts this Tour season, he remains in great position to keep chasing his dreams.

4. Philippe Gasnier, Brazil

He is another top local player with the experience and the game to challenge. He won the CBG Tour/Developmental Series’ Copa Clube de Campo Sao Paulo two weeks ago and has just made it through the second stage of the Web.com Tour’s Qualifying Tournament.

5. José de Jesús Rodríguez, Mexico

The Order of Merit No. 1 also leads the Tour in scoring average. Actually, his scoring average on par-threes is also a Tour low and if you consider that there are six par-three holes he might have a good advantage. Don’t forget that he lost this tournament in a playoff last year in Sao Paulo, so he is probably eager to have another shot at it.
