The 2012 edition of the Puerto Rico Classic was won by Sebastián Vázquez in a Sunday battle with fellow young upstart, Jorge Fernández-Valdés. Originally designed by Robert Trent Jones Sr., the course underwent a major renovation by Robert Trent Jones Jr. in the last few years prior to the inaugural Puerto Rico Classic.
