Jesus Rivas of Colombia struck PGA TOUR Latinoamérica’s first tee-shot

The first of 11 events began today at 7:30 a.m.

Merida, MX (September 5, 2012) - The first tee-shot of PGA TOUR Latinoamérica was struck this morning by Colombian Jesus Rivas, the Tour marks the beginning of new era for professional golf in Latin American.

Rivas, a Bogota native, struck the shot at 7:30 am on Wednesday, September 5th. A 16 year veteran, Rivas chose driver off the 1st tee (par-4, 475 yards) at the Jaguar's Yucatan Country Club.

Among the many witnesses, excited for this first step on this new Tour, were Jack Warfield, President of PGA TOUR Latinoamérica, who watched Rivas hit a shot to the right center of the first fairway alongside playing partners Roberto Diaz (MEX) and Brad Tilley (USA).

A total of 144 competitors from 18 countries will compete in the first tournament of the season, the Mundo Maya Open presented by Corona.
